It’s “There are plenty . . . ,” not “There’s plenty . . . .” Professional writers & speakers seem to be sabotaging English deliberately. The most disappointing offenders are NPR on-air journalists.

Yes, there are plenty of fish in the sea. The problem is that there are too many people on the land eating them.
