B.C.: “This IS easier in winter…….But that rock was effin’ COLD! And why are we standing around half-naked in winter with ice and snow about?”

Peter: “Who knows? Throw another rock.”

And if the water is solid enough, you can go get the rock and skip it again!

I’ve learned to look carefully when skating under the bridges over the Rideau Canal Skateway (https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places/rideau-canal-skateway). Vandals like to throw stones onto the ice; and I have the stitches to prove it.

Many years ago I read a Superman comic where Jimmy Olsen was having to do some pretty big bets to get some of Superman’s stuff back (at least that’s what I remember). One bet was that he could hit a golf ball a mile. How’d he do it? It was winter and he drove the ball down the frozen river. I just kept going and going and going.

True, that. But most of the rocks are frozen to the ground as well.

Hit the longest drive of my life on December 24th 1975…the ball bounced onto a flooded and frozen drainage ditch just to the left of the fairway. The ball didn’t stop rolling until it was deposited in front of the green 400 yards away.

The world record for “ducks and drakes” is “The Guinness World Record for the furthest distance skimmed using natural stone stands at 121.8m for men, established by Dougie Isaacs (Scotland), and 52.5m for women, thrown by Nina Luginbuhl (Switzerland). These records were made on the 28th of May 2018 at Abernant Lake, Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys, Wales.” So, the “ability” now comes down to “distance thrown” rather than “number of skips”, as I knew it.

The god Coyote, on being told the Mormons believe Jesus appeared to the Native Americans:

“Jesus? Oh yeah, I remember him. Really nice guy, but he made a big deal about coming back from the dead, and he only did it once. Still, he showed me this neat ‘walking on water’ trick. I can do it pretty good, in the wintertime.” – Christopher Moore, “Coyote Blue”

Did the author actually try this? It wont skip much, after a couple, the stone would only slide.
