Actually snails don’t need a mate, they’re hermaphrodites! I thought it might be fun to have a snail for a pet so I brought home ONE snail from the local mountain range. I had read up about how to take care of it, what it liked to eat etc but didn’t really know how they reproduced until after a month or so I noticed a tiny little white ball in the terrarium, it was an egg! It was then that I looked up and learned they’re hermaphrodites! Within a few months there were literally dozens of (admittedly adorable!) tiny snails everywhere! They were born complete with minute shells and not much bigger than this “O”! They could (rather noisily) chomp through an entire head of lettuce in a couple of hours!
