The arts do not pay well on average. When I was a teenager, i thought of becoming an artist. My mother, who is a regionally successful artist had left a book out. The first paragraph cured me. It stated that the average income of a free-lance artist was sub-poverty. This was written when Picasso was alive to raise the average.

But now you make enough as an artist to not have to make lattes and go on band gigs and are able to support your family, right?
