I don’t think we have a bookstore anywhere in my city. People are putting stuff on their phones rather than buying books. Such a shame. I prefer real books. At least I can still order them online, but I do miss browsing the bookstore. You never know what you might run across on the shelves.
We had a card store (Papyrus) in the building where I work for ages, but it closed about 5 years ago. The space was vacant for a while, but then a different card company took it, and had their grand opening…a week before the COVID shutdown.
The woman running the place tried to keep it going for longer than I expected, but I felt so sorry for her I could barely make conversation…

This a Hallmark of our age.

Sometimes when a place goes out of business I feel guilty that I didn’t patronize them more often.

Canada had two card store chains- Hallmark and Carlton Cards. But all the Carltons died. I can still find some Hallmarks, though!

The Dollar Stores are the place to look for cards.

My wife (and sister) were Hallmark artists back in the 70s. :-)
