Transcript:
Nate: Major study session! Francis: Okay, here's another one: Francis: Briefly describe what the "Monroe Doctrine" was. Nate: Hmmm... Well, whatever it was, it obviously involved some guy named Monroe... Nate: Monroe Doctrine, you said? So that means he was a doctor, maybe... Right? But I don't remember any doctors in my class notes... Nate: But speaking of doctors... (hee hee!)... Wanna see my latest "Doctor Cesspool" comic? He amputates this guy's foot, see, and then... Oh! Nate: That reminds me! Did you see Jeff Brinker's foot after phys. Ed on Friday? The thing was the size of a basketball! All swollen and bruised and - Nate: What was the question? Francis: He usually does better with "multiple choice."

The Monroe Doctrine was a foreign policy statement originally set forth in 1823 which created separate spheres of European and American influence. The United States promised to stay out of European business and told the Europeans to stay out of the Western Hemisphere’s business.
