Dad, isn't there an expression that says "everything is negotiable"? I guess so. So let's negotiate! What do I have to do so that you'll get me a dog? You have to accept the fact that I won't get you a dog. That makes no sense. Neither does negotiating with a sixth grader.
Spitsy isn’t Nate’s dog. He belongs to Nate’s next-door neighbor, Mr. Eustis. But Nate obviously does a lot of dog-sitting.
