We’ll have to agree to disagree. I don’t think Nate is being outrageously mean-spirited or petty. He’s eleven years old, and he’s reacting to Francis lecturing him for three days in a row. And slapstick is a time-honored element of humor. In your post, you used the phrase “comedic license aside.” Why set it aside? That’s like trying to discuss opera and saying, “ignore the music part.” For me, comedic license is what a comic strip is all about. The day I stop feeling that way, I’ll give it up.
