Hitting someone for correcting them is wrong. It is another disturbing example of the anti-social behavior that goes on in this world.

picture this: nate finds a love note in his locker that was carried there by his preschool lunchbox. it is from jenny, and it has her number. not even thinking to change the area code, nate calls the number. jenny’s mom answers the phone and gives nate the number of an asylum. the phone is brought to jenny who answers from her cell. she said she finally snapped because she couldn’t understand why nate kept trying so hard to go out with her while ignoring her note. jenny comes back to school, after being told the story of how nate lost the note. every five minutes, jenny will laugh like an insane person. what do u think?

Things could be worse: we could be getting “newspeak”, that streamlined, stripped to the carcass, mind-diminishing official state tongue from Orwell’s “1984”. Bignate 1apr13 refs unpersons? Doubleplusungood!!

Correct grammar and syntax are now scoffed at by the the lazy. Another step in the dumbing down of America.

SallyMargaret, I love Ogden Nash and good grammar and am completely unfamiliar with this poem. Thank you.

I wasn’t aware I was making a “defense,” merely an observation.

I don’t encourage violence in real life, but all week long Francis has been making an @ss of himself. In the comic world, what other outcome could there be? He got what he deserved.

but then, that is what English is and always has been, an amalgam of many other languages constantly developing and changing.Ogden, oh how thou hast fallen behind the times…

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I don’t think Nate is being outrageously mean-spirited or petty. He’s eleven years old, and he’s reacting to Francis lecturing him for three days in a row. And slapstick is a time-honored element of humor. In your post, you used the phrase “comedic license aside.” Why set it aside? That’s like trying to discuss opera and saying, “ignore the music part.” For me, comedic license is what a comic strip is all about. The day I stop feeling that way, I’ll give it up. Thanks for reading!

I hate it when people keep correcting your grammar over things that are “technically” not correct.
