Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for September 08, 2013
Transcript:
GOFREY: People, I've forgotten where we left off last year. Nate, why don't you remind me? NATE: Huh? GODFREY: What we were studying when school ended in June? NATE: How am I supposed to remember when you don't? GODFREY: I do remember! NATE: Then why did you say you didn't? GODFREY: To get your attention! But obviously Nate I remember! NATE: So you were lying when you said you didn't remember? GODFREY: Oh for heaven's sake. NATE: I mean, if we can't trust you... GODFREY: All right all right! We were studying the cox-Bremerton Treaty! NATE: That's what I was going to say! The Cox-Bremerton Treaty! GODFREY: There's no such thing as the Cox-Bremerton Treaty. GINA: PUNK'D! NATE: She's evil.
Well there goes my suspension of disbelief. Is the story that in the Big Nate universe, Mrs. Godfrey was Nate’s fifth grade teacher, or is it just that the fact that everyone repeats the same grade and no one ages known by by the characters? Did the fourth wall just break? I’m confusing myself. My point is that it seems weird that Nate knows he’s repeating the sixth grade endlessly. I hope someone understands what I’m trying to say.
