This arc is pretty dry imo. I see it as Pierce just poking fun at “trendy foods,” which maybe I would find some humour in if said “trendy” foods actually spread this much. They are more widespread nowadays, but not to this extent. A dozen donuts will rarely, if ever, reach forty bucks, and you can still easily find chocolate glazed donuts even at these “trendy” stores (although tbf this may just be an exaggeration). Idk, I think I get the message being sent here, but it just falls flat for me.
