dchatchett: they would think that gocomics readers are about as dumb as they come - the strip was printed 25 years ago, which, even if you didn’t bother to look at the copyright date on the first panel would have been an easy tip-off from the topical subjects - Reagan, Libyan terrorists, Kissinger, Argentinian penguin cull. (yes folks, a second rate actor actually DID become President of the United States, but then again, so did a former Ivy League under-achiever and daddy’s boy, so there’s no telling what folks may vote for, or how dumb they can be…)
If they get really annoyed, they might sue gocomics.
Me, I’d simply send a letter filled with abuse and invective back to each of the blighters that actually sent in the above page (which was a joke even back then - and no one was dumb enough to send in the page back then - it seems the IQ today is lower than back then). Then I would send the t-shirts, charging gocomics for it (and maybe the Washington Post, which holds the copyright for the page).
Following that, I might sue each of the people who sent in a page, forcing them to read (and understand) Carl Sagan’s ” The Daemon-Haunted World” which is largely about the dummification of America.
Of course, that is assuming that people are actually dumb enough to not understand that the above page is satire and printed 25 years ago, and NO ONE amongst our dear readers is THAT dumb, are they? Of course not… ;-)
Quite the rant there Wilorg…. seems you have missed the satire from the posters! They’re just having fun with what they already know is a re-run strip:)
Docrortoon they probably think this is the oped page. Since as you said they don’t have a sense of humor. Plus they probably think their opinions are worth something.
if the folks who re-ran this thing had their thinking caps on, they, with berke’s permission , should have made it a bogus address that would have insured the mailpiece be returned to the sender as “no such address’ should anybody be foolish enough to mail something there.
as it is, that zipcode matches Iowa City, IA….
so , yes, they WILL receive letters from confused people that will equally confuse the recipients
Depending on the mood of the Box Section clerk, and his/her workload, they might know B. Breathed drew Bloom County and it’s remotely possible that they would get that mail to him. I’d be willing to bet they’ve been getting that kind of mail off-and-on since this strip first ran. They probable just return it to sender.
Liberal, conservative, communist, whatever, it’s funny. As a registered Republican and avowed Libertarian and a Bush supporter, I still find it funny. I found it hilarious back in the eighties when I was a Reagan supporter. Humor and satire does not have to take sides.

Cool, an Opus T-shirt. I would be the envy of all the gocomics commenters.

I wonder what the recipient of box 45 is going to think about all this mail they are about to receive.

And all this time Henry Kissinger [penguin #4] was really Opus in drag. Who ever would have guessed?

I still have my “Penguin Lust” shirt, AND my “Don’t Blame Me: I Voted for Bill and Opus” shirt, which I wear, occasionally, in November.
