Hey, what are you guys going on about pro wrestling. Next thing you’ll be picking on honest politicians or fairies. Though they could all be from the same families.
Are you saying that pro wrestling isn’t real anymore.
Why, I remember back then when it was live (no video tape) and between bouts Jim Wesman would climb up on his 8 ft ladder to tell us about the great used cars he had at Gateway Chevrolet. Then “The Sheik” would come over and knock him off the ladder. Pepe Gomez would come to Jim’s’ assisitance with a folding chair. Then “The Sheik” would tear the door off of the ‘57 Chevy and beat Pepe with it…
Then they would have the next match.
I miss the good old days of good honest TV. sigh
I remember going to Park Center in Charlotte and watching that stuff. It was amazing. On Thursday Night Ric Flair, Black Jack Mulligan, and the Andersons would beat the snot out of each other and talk about how much they hated each other. Then on Friday Night, I would ride my bike past Flair’s Condo and see all of them sitting on the balcony drinking and cooking on the grill. What a difference a day made.
Go see the Wrestler. Fantastic movie that makes clear that (1) yes, Pro Wrestling is entertainment but (2) just because the fights are scripted doesn’t mean the physical encounters aren’t dangerous.
Back in the late ’50s we would go to the roof of the Rice Hotel in downtown Houston to watch the wrestlers rehearsing that night’s bout. Had to sneak in, because the legitimacy of wrestling was still a hot topic at that time.
henebry is right. Despite it being fake, there were plenty of bumps, bruises, and injuries.
I admit, seeing “the wrestler” did make me appreciate the stuff more… you don’t see all that broken glass, razor wire, etc. on WWE though do you? (I’ve never watched it myself…)

I do not allow pro wrestling on my TV. Even if I’m not watching it.

There is a (probably growing) percentage of Americans who believe NASA is fake and pro wrestling is real… Sigh.

“Pro wrestling” is basically ballet for men.
Everyone knew it was kid stuff; I remember watching that Hulk Hogan cartoon series in the ’80s.
