You know, I sometimes wonder how Steve ever passed the Bar Exam. But then, you know, he’s from Texas, and so’s Louie Gohmert…

So-called lawyers bear a lot of responsibility for the mess on 1/6.

“The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.”-Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2.

I see the country hasn’t changed much since this was written.

Last night we watched an episode of “Family Ties” (my older daughter got it for me for Christmas). Elyse is talking to her brother (played by Tom Hanks!), who had embezzled $4.5m from his company. Ned: “You’re my sister; you’re supposed to help me.” Elyse: “You don’t need a sister…you need a lawyer!” Ned: “I TOLD you you should have gone to law school!”

The firing squad is too quick and relatively painless. They need to suffer a bit more to pay their debt to Society.

Before lawyers, justice was a lot simpler. And terrible. If you thought someone had done you wrong, you killed them. And then their family came and killed you. Then your family went and killed them. Blood feuds went on for generations over perceived insults.

You can point out that lawyers protect rich people. Before lawyers, rich people used soldiers. If you tried to protest some thing a rich person did, their soldiers beat you up. At least.

Our system isn’t great, but it’s better than that.

In one Sci-Fi novel I read there was a period in the fictional history of man where all the lawyer were hanged and a new golden era was initiated. I wish I could remember the author and the title.

Saw a sign posted online that make you stop and wonder “Why?”, but the caption was something to the effect of “behind every sign, regulation or rule, there’s a story as to why it’s necessary…” People can do the dumbest things, and lawyers get paid to make rules to prohibit “the thing” so a numbskull can’t sue…

The only time I ever needed a lawyer was to get rid of a toxic roommate. I went to the lawyer my landlord recommended and I put everything in his hands (he may have been a shark, but he was my shark). For $500 (this was in 1998) he guided me through the process and took care of everything. Toxic roommate smugly assumed I wouldn’t evict her because “you can’t afford it”. Hah! It was worth it to get rid of her, and any worries I had that she might damage the house before she cleared out were assuaged when the sheriff came to the door to present her with the eviction notice—that scared her, and she left without further protest.

    Sauce for the goose, Lawyer-Boy….

There are too many lawyers in this country. Some must leave the profession!
