I had to google Thomas Huxley as all I could think was why Milo was quoting Aldous Huxley; was Oliver experimenting with “The Doors of Perception”? Anyhow, cheer up Oliver its a Brave New World out there and you would definitely be an Alpha plus though some of the other residents of Bloom County might be bit further down the Greek alphabet….

One of the absolute classics, I will be posting this to the site of a great teacher I know.

Ah, my absolute favorite.

Back in my days in IBM research, I had this taped to my office door. Being that low quality newsprint it fell apart when I moved offices in the late 1990’s.

This captures so much of the spectrum of optimism and reality in science and technology…

Applies to politics too – not just science. Except in politicos the hypotheses are harded to slay.

My high school physics teacher looked a lot like this. A bit more beard, but otherwise spot on.

On the contrary. That an original, beautiful hypothesis can be slain by an ugly fact is at the heart of the scientific method.

And always remember: never confuse the truth with the fact!

A lot of people today, people who should know better, cannot distinguish between hypothesis and fact….

There are a few obvious errors in his arithmetic too.
