Oliver must have a vocabulary-word-a-day desk calendar … unless the feature is built into his Banana Junior 6000.

I’m with Oliver when it comes to words—“tome”, “elephantine” … so descriptive, so satisfying, like savoring a dark chocolate truffle.

I worked with a guy who would proclaim he was “famished” around lunch time.

I guess Binkley will be the new spokesperson for Newspeak ("Do we really need all those words?’)

I personally make a point never to use “tome” without putting “learnèd” in front of it.

Never use a big word when a diminutive one will do.

Binkley is so wrong and represents the Dumbing Down. Oliver is right to expand his vocabulary (and Binkley’s, too)!

I’ve always been grateful that whenever I asked my mother what a word meant, she told me, “Look it up!”. Ever since my youthful days, the dictionary has been my best friend!
