I remember when this first ran in the paper! (remember those?) Then it came out in a Bloom County book. I have this strip famed by itself & 2 of the pages from the book where the strips run in a series are also framed.
Nah; them sapsuckers ain’t hardly worth bothering with. Their total weight is only about 2 ounces, makin’ for maybe half an ounce of meat. It’d take a lot of them to make a decent meal. And they don’t fly around in flocks, so you’d never get more than one per shot, which would make your meal sorta expensive.
This has always been my favorite Bloom County cartoon of all time. I have quoted it often since I got old enough to vote. That and the newspaper editor screaming “Yer going down in flames, you tax fattened hyena!” I used to keep that one on my bulletin board when I taught school.
When I first moved to California I went hunting with a guy I had recently met and his friends. We met back at the camp about mid-morning to review the results of the morning’s hunt. No one had gotten anything, but one guy said he had a good “Sound Shot.” When I asked what that was one of the other guys said, “That’s when you hear something and shoot at it.” I immediately packed my stuff and left, I have never hunted in California since then.
But, are Hunters in season? Portnoy, do you have your hunting license? Just wondering: want to be sure this is all being done properly if you do bag one of the those Hunters for a trophy….

Go, animals. The hoo-mins can’t possibly object. They think hunting is a wonderful thing.

Can’t call it a “sport” unless the critters can shoot back. Wouldn’t see too many “hunters” out there if the wildlife were armed.
