When I lost Cleo I found that I was still watching out where I stepped because I was afraid that she would be underfoot and I didn’t want to step on her. It takes time to forget the daily little routines.

WHY ARENT THEY LOOKING FOR HER? Who in the world wouldn’t look for their dog if she got loose? They aren’t putting out flyers or anything..not calling the vets or shelters?..sheesh

I know that I and others have mentioned the Rainbow Bridge during this trying time, Frank. When you’re ready, google it. It’s been a comfort to my friends and family. As a foster for rescues we probably have had more than our share of these times as our adoptive families have kept in touch. Again, sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing Lady.

I think that’s the hardest part for the first couple of weeks, old habits and all…………..Soon you will be able to remember Lady with a smile and laughter and joy with just a touch of sadness that she’s gone. Know that you gave her a wonderful life and she is waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge with my Juniper and Lolli, I betting they are having a grand ole’ time running around the fields and chasing each other. ((((hugs))))

@Frank: It does get a little better over time. I agree w/ deeleesmith, soon, you’ll remember the good times. But, in the meantime, I cry with you. Thanks for sharing this personal story.

Its been about a month now that we had to make the horrible decision about letting our Chester (min schnauzer) go. He was only 8 but had developed diabetes. Was given 2 shots daily but eventually it took its toll on his eyes and he went blind. We dealt with this for awhile and readjusting. We took him into the vet to get his glaucous check up done and she informed us of an operation that they could do to make him see again. It was expensive but that they could do a test to determine his dominate eye and only do the operation on that one eye. We got so excited and started to save up and think about what we could do without or sell etc. Several weeks later while he was at work with w/ me he would just drink water and then throw up. No matter what he couldn’t keep things down. That night his glaucous was 700 at the emergency clinic. Pretty much he was in liver failure. This is why he was throwing it all up =( It was then we knew what we had to do and it was then we had no idea how hard things would truly get. To this day his things are still in the same spot at my shop and well at home. I still have his biscuits in a zip lock back on my desk for which I am looking at while I type this to you wiping tears away. Not one day goes by that I don’t think about my cruising buddy, working buddy etc. It’s most hard during morning hours as he would come to work with me. After noons I would take him home at lunch (who could blame him right lol) but it’s then when I go home and walk through the front door and he is not there waiting/barking for me. He had a knub for tail as most schnauzers do, so I would always ask “what knubby do”? I still catch myself doing this. I know eventually time will heal to its best abilities but for now I don’t want it to in fear of forgetting the simple things about him…

I am so very sorry Frank. I understand completely, my best friend died over 10 years ago and I still wake up to stroke her…but she is not there. It still breaks my heart.

I lost my Scruffy dog Jan 2nd of this year. 1 week to the day after having a small stroke. I went to the humane society here and got another friend a couple of weeks later. While he will never be Scruffy, he fills an empty space.

Okay – Lady died! We are all saddened when we lose a well-loved pet. I still miss my last pet, Toby, a Rotweiler-Chow mix who died 8 years ago. For the first day or two, I actually cried. But, life does go on, and so must we all, even when we lose a loved human! So, move on with the strip – you chose to be a cartoonist to entertasin people and make them laugh – grief and grieving are neither laughable nor entertaining.

@ glh61136 it is his strip. The fact that he is still paying tribute makes me love the strip more.
