Huey: Granddad, it might be time for a new cell phone. Granddad: What's wrong with my phone? Huey: I can't tell if it's a cell phone or a cordless pay phone. Granddad: Boy, this is the ultraphone 2000! Huey: It's 2005! Granddad: It's still under warranty!
The Plain Black Dial phone at my Grandfather’s house was at least 15 years old when he died.
We continued to use that same phone for another 15 years or more. The last time I saw it, it was at my Mother’s house, still working perfectly.
Of course, that phone was built back when the Bell System Owned the phone and you just got to Use it so long as you kept paying your monthly bill. If you discontinued service, they took the phone back and installed it in someone Else’s house.
When the Phone Company Owned the phone, they made sure it was Durable enough to last 25 or 30 years.
