Jazmine: Hello. My name is Jazmine, um, my family just moved to Woodcrest this summer. I'm glad I'm here at J. Edgar Hoover Elementary even though Huey says it's an evil place. I like reading and playing outside, and when I grow up, uh, I want to be a veterinarian even though I'm allergic to cats. Huey: Hey, aren't you leaving something out, soul sista? Forgetting to mention something, nubian princess? Jazmine: No!! And you're not funny, Huey!!

Re-reading these strips I realize how toxic Huey was towards Jazmine during the early years, especially with race. Even in the later years, but then it was more of a dismissive, apathetic tone. I mean, he’s toxic with everyone, even Caesar sometimes, but they could all handle it. Jazmine has that pure naievte of a real life 10 year old girl so the contrast in personalities hit harder.
