I often wondered what our cats thought of their names. Especially Guillermo, who was a girl. She was named that because that is what her meow sounded like.

I just love the names the cats would have picked out! So appropriate! Elvis twitching his tail so Beatrix can play with it is so cute!

When I found Oscar when he was a kitten, I asked him what his name was, and he told me. Despite everyone insisting he was female.

Waitaminnit! How can someone who’s colorblind see a rainbow?

Cats aren’t colorblind. It was just thought they were because they never cared enough to cooperate with “scientists” whoe were testing them.

We found a cat named Oscar, too (actually, he found us and his name wasn’t Oscar then). He was so hungry he tried to steal our steaks off a hot hibachi and decided that since the food was so good he would stick around. He was with us for eighteen years.

Oooh – she’s SO cute. Every time I think I couldn’t possibly love all these cats any more, Georgia does something like this to show all their personalities, and I love them even more…@RetiredDude – : ) great story!

…ha! Ares, Cat of War – love it! My late, great GENGHIS was half Siamese, half Russian Blue – looked like a Blue, but his temperament was entirely Siamese! Boy, did he take his name to heart :)…

Named Beatrix by the people, would prefer to be called Scout- I think we have a literary kitty here. :)

I think Big Man really likes his name. He certainly responds to it. Bucky, not so much…..

We let the kittens name themselves when they were kittens. That was back in 2014 (obviously their full grown cats now but we still call the boys the kittens) when we got them to keep Smokey company. Long story there, but the basic gist is Smokey had never been without any four legged company and suddenly all her companions were gone. When we’d go to bed she’d get so lonely that she’d be waking folks up to keep her company. So we were going to get her one kitten, but ended up getting the last two kittens in their litter just in case Smokey passed so they would be able to keep each other company. We decided not to name them, let them name themselves. Basically just throw out a bunch of names and see which one they seemed to like and respond to. One loved the name Smokey, which he was told he couldn’t have as that name was taken. Somehow we ended up saying Bandit and he clearly thought we were talking about him (yup, Smokey and the Bandit; I swear to god that wasn’t planned but found it funny he decided to be Bandit). The other my mom thinks got named for the Disney movie That Darn Cat! (the Hayley Mills version) but actually I wasn’t even thinking of that movie when I yelled at him. He was being a little demon and reminded me of the ghost story of the Demon Cat, or DC, that’s supposed to haunt the Capitol Building in DC and I yelled “Stop that, you little DC” then went back to trying to find names. But he’d already picked DC. We just say DC can stand for Darn Cat, Demon Cat, Da Cat, etc.
