…well, we are heading into séance time. Who wants to dial up Tillie and the rest of the RCO gang? I think they’d qualify as an “interesting” interview.
I was a investigative reporter in college. I was assigned a story about a drug store next to campus being forced to move. It was a local institution and moving it would hurt a lot of students. It started out as a human interest piece, and turned into a major story. It got deeper, and deeper. I started getting people upset because it was obvious that it involved illegal acts. I got lectured by my professor, who had been told to stop me. I got some threats from people who were clearly scared, and after learning some things, I was ready to blow the lid off. I learned that if things were on the up and up, there would be a document from HUD that would end the matter. I went to the appropriate office and asked for the document. On was on the precipice of bringing a number of people down. I was about to be possibly famous. I imagined being interviewed, a possible book deal, and a even a movie deal. I sat down with the person, and as soon as I asked to see the document, he started sweating, shaking, the colored drained out of his face, and I was honestly afraid he was going to die right in front of me. I also realized he was going to take th fall, and his life would be ruined, even as mine would would be the opposite. I made a discovery. I couldn’t do it. I told him he could have time to locate it, knowing full well that was a mistake. You never do that. It gives them a chance to fake it. I got up, waked to my car, knowing I was not going to be famous, or wealthy. I just didn’t have it in me. I’ve often wondered if I made the wrong choice. People got away with criminal acts. But I also know it would have been unbearable to have caused that poor man to have died.
So is this a prelude for the October Halloween arc? Does Beatrix follow Goldie’s advice and tries to start an interesting conversation with Baba Mouse? The Robber Mice? Queen Magnet? Perhaps the ghost of Tillie? Hard to believe October is almost upon us, it seems like yesterday we were saying bye to Jules…….
I hope our plucky little Reporter is careful. Unfortunately, trees and steamer trunks have been known to cause mischief in this quaint New England town.
Personally, I would think a cat investigative reporter would do a story on the mystery of the toy eating appliances, or couch spelunking… ;-) But, the cat press remains inscrutable.
Long conversations aren’t really investigative journalism. They are usually human interest pieces. They certainly would suit Beatrix’s personality better, particularly at her age.
Bechdel Test grade: pass. (Although BCN passed long ago, thanks to the Robber Mice, Beatrix and Baba during the Golden Mouse story, and the various People Women.)
It was 80 degrees today so I took Lady Bug out to sit in the neighbor’s yard with me. She turns 18 next month. She sniffed the air, purred, chewed on some grass and explored. She is such a sweet little kitty (6 pounds).

It also depends on what selective investigative reporting your media house wants you to do, Beatrix.

So, can we agree, this is Beatrix’s first investigative report?
“and sometimes all it takes is a good conversation around an interesting subject”…
Beatrix looks to be off to an excellent start.
“Thank you Goldie, is there anything else an intrepid investigative reporter should know?”

I wonder if she will interview Trevor?
I’d like to know how he became a bookstore dog, rather than a herding dog. Besides – Trevor!

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Beatrixia: Elvis, ever notice how the Royal Kitchen always seems to have whatever we need? It’s almost like magic.
Elvis-Anum: Yes. That’s fine, as long as we have tea and blueberry scones when I need a tea break.
Beatrixia: Hmmm…I wonder who would know.
Sometime later, in the Royal Kitchen
Beatrixia: So you’re saying you don’t know how the kitchen pantry gets filled up all the time?
Thomios: That’s right. Although sometimes I have heard something like someone or someones giggling as they leave.
Beatrixia: It sounds like someone isn’t telling. I think I know who to ask.

What’s Beatrix doing here? Doesn’t she live at the bookstore? Or am I confusing her with another cat?

Goldie and Beatrix need to be added to the ‘Our Reporters’ section at the top. I didn’t know who they were and looked there but no info on them.
