I sense a winner take all Battle Royale for the couch!

Why do I hear the Pon Farr music?

Hmmmm. I wonder if anybody commented about the possibility of a clash over the ownership of the couch yesterday? You can call me Clair . . . Clair Voyant.

I said this would lead to discord.

And the “debate” is on.

I realize that “share” is no a word in any cat dictionary, but come on guys and gal. That couch is big enough for 4 cats, two kids, and a grown man and woman!

The people are in trouble now. Couchwar has begun!

It’s all fun and games until whiskers are rubbed.

Oh-oh. Goldy’s fangs are in evidence. No claws, although “Wait-a-minute” toe beans are definitely showing.

Oooh! Goldie looks like she’s about to swat someone silly!

The biggest battles in our house are over the two wooden Windsor chairs and small between table in the front window. I think because besides being chairs, together the grouping makes a splendid jungle gym.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Beatrixia: So it appears the Royal Maintenance Team got a bit too enthusiastic when they repaired the wall.

Burt-Ra: That’s not surprising. For generations the Royal Maintenance motto has been, “We’ll fix it whether it needs it or not.”

Beatrixia: So what we need to do is find a wall that looks newer than the others. But so much time has gone by.

Burt-Ra: I may be able to help. The head maintenance cat at that time was Awil-Fixit. His signature was a hieroglyph of a cat with a mallet.

Bea: So whatever happened to the team?

Burt-Ra: Most of them retired. But legend has it that some of them are working to this day.

Elvis-Anum: That’s strange. That row of shelves wasn’t here yesterday.

And here I was commenting on the need for teamwork yesterday. They could have just gone on erasing each other forever until someone was CAUGHT in the ACT.

We know there’s only one PERMANENT way to decide this debate, but I think Lupin’s the only one who would do it. Also, the People might throw the couch away after that.

We are fostering a stray and my 15 year old domestic will follow her around the house rubbing on anything the foster rubbed on. I find it hilarious,

Apparently, none of them have been properly communicating whose couch it actually is, then.

Goldie, with respect, I’m pretty sure that couch has been here longer than you have, and knowing cats, I have no doubt that one of the lads here had staked a claim on it long before you’d entered the picture.

I would suggest that they all get on a therapy couch and work out their issues, but….

A cat only “owns” as much territory as it can mark and for only as long as the scent persists. That’s the main reason so many cats get those chin infections.

My bird feeder is neutral ground for seven pairs of cardinals. If dumb birds can have neutral territory, then cats should, too.

Kitties own everything, we just rent from them. They also spend an inordinate amount of time erasing all evidence of the dogs – until they need them for fall guys.

Solitary predators need a big territory.

I only have one cat…she does the rub all the time, especially in the bathroom. Door and toile paper holder! But she will also do it on the furniture. It’s just something cats do.

Oh please, the couch clearly belongs to the Boy and Girl and they just share it with everyone else.

This really shows how much Goldie has settled in. When she first joined the household, she didn’t even know what a couch was!
