Today marks the start of a series of classic Breaking Cat News strips! These reruns were chosen to give my hand some time for recovery after surgery. Originally, it was only going to be two weeks of classic BCN strips. However, I had some swelling around the stitches, ending up taking the full four weeks of hand rest, drawing and all. Looking back, I think it was very ambitious of me to think I could heal up well enough to have a good grip and draw in just two weeks. I’m glad I was optimistic, but I’m grateful that I was able to take the rest when that was not the case.
I miss drawing incredibly. I keep telling friends it feels a lot like that episode of the Twilight Zone with Burgess Meredith, where he finally has all the time to read but his glasses break. All I would want to do usually with time off is draw and paint. I cannot wait to get back to it. My hand is feeling better every day. The grip is finally getting a bit more precise and stronger. There’s still some achiness and tightness through the tendons, I have been told that that is normal, and will get better in time. I want to thank everyone at GoComics and Andrews McMeel Syndication/Publishing for being incredibly helpful and supportive during this entire experience. And of course I want to thank all of you for your kind words here, in the comments on GoComics, Twitter, and elsewhere. I read all the comments, and as I am typing right now with speech to text Replying back to many would be a bit tough right now, but please know that they have been a great comfort during all of this and I appreciate you so much.
