When Paul Tsongas was running against Bill Clinton (and the rest of the usual gang of idiots) back in 1992, he called him “Pander Bear” and I think actually held up a stuffed panda at a press conference or a speech. Of course, Clinton later turned out to be a Philander Bear (or Bare………)
Yup. And LBJ first ran for president against JFK whose New England accent would have made panda sound like pander. My first thought even before reading your comment.
Reminds me of that punctuation error on pandas: “eats, shoots, and leaves”, also the title of a great book on punctuation. The cover picture had well-armed pandas leaving a restaurant with corpses all over the floor.
