Gaijinrabbit…I don’t see it as sad…a playdate is merely an opportunity for them to have somebody to play with,in a safe place.Mostly they’re just unstructured playtime, for those too young to meet other kids in school, camp, etc.
They also give shy or awkward children a chance to make a friend without the competition, pressure, or even bullying of a larger group.
Unfortunately, the world is more dangerous than when I was small… , few parents can tell an older sibling “Go outside and play, and take your little brother with you,” like they did back then.
That part is sad…. but I don’t blame the parents for guarding their children.
