Also discovered shortly after: we’d evolve into both the best loved & worst hated country in the world. Where’s my XM8, I want to put these flowers in the barrel…

human, didn’t they discover the new world when they came here long before? If memory serves, at one point no humans lived on this continent until they settled here.

And I would argue that the native Americans knew they existed - just the Europeans didn’t know. Except for the Vikings, and nobody listened to them anyway.

You know it 3HOUR Everyone knows the Viking settled it but what is known as the US was settled by Prince Henry Sinclair 300 years before Columbus. His first knight is buried in Massachusetts with my family’s crest on his stone. Somehow the Irish gave up this home (some suspect the local microbrewery) and returned to the land of oppression.

Hey–we’re ALL immigrants–some came in a boat, some came in a plane, and some walked the Bering Land Bridge.

I call myself a ‘Native American’ because I was born in Iowa.

I’m always amused when I hear American politicians accuse other countries of “ethnic cleansing”. They totally miss the irony of their comments. “But we’re America! If we do it, it’s OK!”

When you think about it, just about everyone discovered america EXCEPT the natives. You can’t discover some place you already live. (unless you go back to their great great caveparents, in which case you can say the folks from olduvai discovered it, which is again, everybody’s ancestors.

@WaitingMan I hate to break this to you, but everyone did it in the past.

We, as in the human race, don’t do it now because we’ve decided it’s wrong. It’s called progress. Check it out - you might like it.

According to Stan Freberg (in “Stan Freberg presents the United States of America)…

Columbus: Incidentally, we would like to take a few of you with us in the boat to prove we discovered you.

Native: What you mean, discover us? We discover YOU.

    Columbus: You discovered us?

Native: Certainly. We discovered you on beach. It all how you look at it.

Also, according to the Latter Day Saints, a lost tribe of the Jews settled the Americas about the time the Babylonians took over Jerusalem. These Jews eventually became the “Native Americans” that we know about nowadays.

Jewish Native Americans–that explains why they wore loin clothes–after being circumcised, it was the only thing they could wear!

Things exist before we discover it, therefore nobody ever “discovers” anything.
