Aliens have to be kept a secret because earthlings would panic out of their minds if they thought little green men from Mars were amongst them. ’Cause as we know, all aliens are evil doers, right? Our POTUS says so…

PEOPLE are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it! 1500 years ago, everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago, everybody KNEW the Earth was flat, and 15 minutes ago, you knew that human beings were alone on this planet. Imagine what you’ll know…tomorrow.”
It’s interesting that we’re looking for “liquid water” (a redundancy) as though finding it were a proof of life. Water is only one of very many chemicals and conditions needed for life. In other words, water is “Necessary but not sufficient.”
My favorite variant of the cliche is “If I told you, you’d have to kill me.” The theory is that it’s not illegal for you to happen to find out the classified info — but it’s a capital offense for me to disclose it.
