    The Kakapo or New Zealand Owl Parrot is around 2 feet tall, weights 5 to 9 lbs. and doesn’t fly. It’s endangered because among other things it has no defends from rats, pigs, and cats.

    This is true. I love the scientific name of this bird: Heracles inexpectatus. NatGeo referred to it as “squawkzilla,” which is just as good. The fossils were found in New Zealand.
