Let’s not forget Katherine Johnson (8/26/1918 – 2/24/2020). Without her accurate calculations across a 33 year career at NACA and NASA, most of these women may never have made it to space.

Remember Christa McAuliffe and Judith Resnik (Challenger 1986), Kalpana Chawla and Laurel Clark (Columbia 2003) ? Do not want to scare girls away, I guess.

Eileen Collins came from Elmira, NY, about an hour from where I grew up.

You couldn’t mention all 65 of them, I would add an mention of Svetlana Savitskaya of the USSR, who was the First woman to fly on a space station (Salyut 7, 1982), First woman to perform a spacewalk (July 25, 1984), and the First woman to make two spaceflights.

Query: what’s the difference between “time in space” and “length of spaceflight”. Aren’t they the same?

There’s some women we’d like to send to space. OK, to be fair some guys too, but it’s Women’s History month.

It looks like Dr. Mel wouldn’t have brought the subject up on his own. Pam had to get all uppity to get women some due recognition.

How about Anne McClain, the first person to commit a crime in space.

Technically, women ought to be pilots, given their superior resistance to acceleration. (That’s something Heinlein got right in Starship Troopers.)

Shame no one know’s the name of that brave beyond belief Russian astronaut whose last words where recorded as she burned to death in orbit on May 23, 1961. Hearing it once will haunt you for the rest of your life!
