Living forever is not desirable if you end up like Tithonus.

In ancient Athens they had something called ostracism. They’d take a vote and send the biggest pain in the rear to society into exile for awhile. Harder to do if you live forever. And where can you send them in this interconnected age that they’ll stop being a pain to society? Exploration of the sun’s surface?

Mmmmm…Now, there’s a thought! “We have a super-special expedition we need only the best of the best of the best for & YOU qualify!!! You are going to be the FIRST PERSON to explore the surface of the sun!!!!” And, problem solved.

Maybe there should be a written and oral exam to prospective subjects before administering these wonder drugs?

They wouldn’t have to be the first person to explore, but rather the next person to join the Sunsplortation! team. A team that only works the night shift and gets a pay differential.

I’d settle for them to get to the point where they can print replacement parts using our own DNA as the base so rejection won’t be an issue.

That’s why people should watch Torchwood: Miracle Day which is great SF on the subject of immortality

Living forever (here – in this existence) has it’s drawbacks.

[Living forever (beyond this existence) can have an eternal reward.]

Battle is on? I usually just calmly and politely state my point of view, along with supporting facts, and the other side usually says: “Ok – I see your point and I agree!” (Anyone who believes that can join Cliff in funny pages)

Cliff is a good argument for mortality.

One of my favorite curses in media is when someone is granted Immortality, in the form of unliving stone. And considering how some people think they will be able to one day upload their brains to a computer…
