Actually, it wasn’t an earth flag, just an American one. It’s only the Untied States that have surrendered.

If I had been an astronaut going to the moon back then, I would have been tempted to set up a special American flag to leave behind. One with thirteen stars arranged in a circle. Some of the astronauts that did go might have done that.
