Strange sort of logic to this method … puts me in mind of my sister-in law’s dilemma … She has complained, often, how it’s not possible for her to travel, as she has quite a menagerie of pets ( dogs, cats, birds, a turtle, some rodents in cages ) … So, I suggested that she only needed to adopt one more pet, and let nature take it’s course … Than pet, of course, would have to be either a boa constrictor, or a python … Merry Christmas! … ;)
Actually, especially trained Rescue Dogs can be more effective. (No, not some dog you rescued). They really enjoy finding people – live people. If they have to work a site where there are no survivors, one of the rescue team occasionally hides in the debris, so that the dog can “find them”. The dogs get genuinely depressed if they find nothing but dead people. I bet the rescue teams wish they could be cheered up that easily.
(You can work with rats if you prefer. Nobody is going to smile when a rat finds them.)
