I’m of a generation that will continue to call them mikes. It lets you know the correct pronunciation. Mic looks like it would be pronounced mick – a derogatory term for an Irishman. I don’t think it is because of the % of Irish ancestors in my gene pool. It is more likely the pronunciation issue. But, as an old fogy I’m tempted to blame the younger generation for being lazy and wanting drop the number of letters from four to three to avoid the extra work.
