We fed our dog a mixture of both wet and dry dog food. We’d give her a little bit of Cesar’s or Hill’s Science Diet canned food for breakfast and dinner, and since she was a “grazer” rather than a “gobbler”, she had a bowl of dry kibble available 24/7 whenever she felt a little hungry in-between. Sometimes she’d eat the whole bowl before the end of the day; other times she wouldn’t touch it at all. She was very good at regulating her own food intake and wasn’t fat a single day in her whole 9 lb., 17 years of life.
As for food guarding, she never EVER did that. We could touch her, put our hands near, or even IN, her bowl while she was eating and she never once growled or tried to bite us. We thought she was pretty darn perfect and if we could have had our pick of any dog in the entire world, it would have been impossible to have done any better than her! ♥
