I agree that humans need to establish themselves as the leader of the pack or the dog will be forced by instinct to take over, even if they know they are not equipped to be an alpha. My dog knows I am in charge. However, she also knows she eats at 5p and I eat whenever I want to. On a rare occasion I am napping during her mealtime, and she just waits patiently, because I am in charge. Dogs have a pecking order just like chickens and we need to establish the order early and it will help avoid some anxiety in our dogs.
Cats get fed at set times…and believe me, they know when that is. Our new little feral kitten got out of his harness and disappeared for hours…food was left outside along with his litter pan…still no show. At midnight when he would normally get fed, he showed up at my feet with a little squeak while I was calling him .

Jill has certainly got you beat there, Paul. Let that be a lesson to you.

Paul should have explained it to Buckles after eating. She probably didn’t leave anything, except Buckles food.

The idea of an “alpha” is based on faulty science, as far as I know.

I can relate to Buckles…it’s just that when I “whine” at dinnertime, mine doesn’t have the H.
