That doesn’t look anything like an actual chain.

I’ve seen this debate way too many times in the comments sections for_Buckles. It’s just a cartoon, people! Mr. Gilbert never intended to depict animal abuse, or what is perceived as such. “I’d never chain a dog. This comic strip is so cruel! It’s so mean! I’m going to call Peta right now and have all the archived strips of this comic burned from the pages of history!” Just take it as it is: Slapstick, comedy, and sometimes a slice of life. It’s not that deep.

Buckles …… you cagey dog ……. you had an ulterior motive to exercising …. of course ………. :)
