    Interestingly, Calvin’s dad is wrong, or rather, right for the wrong reasons. Winter doesn’t occur because the Earth is further from the Sun. If it did, it’d happen at the same time in the northern and southern hemispheres. But actually, those are half a year apart. In fact, winter occurs in the Northern Hemisphere when the Earth is -closest- to the sun…

    Yeah, I think it’s because Earth’s axis is tilted with respect to the sun, or something like that. I’m an astronomy student.
