Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for August 02, 1992
Transcript:
Dad: Ahh. This is the life! Dad: Outside in the fresh air. All alone...Dad:..No distractions, no irritations... Dad:..Nothing but quiet and serenity.. Dad..A chance to get a feel for the land...Dad:..The exhilaration of speed...Dad:..The opportunity to reflect on things and let the mind wander... Dad: *Sighhh* Getting out like this really makes the rat race seem ridiculous. The weekends just aren't long enough to do what's important. Dad: You know, I think I'll quit my job and ride my bicycle all the time. Mom: Ok dear, want me to call the bike shop and see if they'll sponsor your mid-life crisis? Dad: Yeah. Ask 'em if they'll upgrade my shifters too.
Agreed. This is also my all time favorite Calvin and Hobbes strip. A myriad number of times I’ve wished Hobbes was correct with his ‘no doubt’ response to Calvin’s childlike remark: ‘I suppose this will all make sense when we grow up’.
As an alleged grown up, I’ve often wished that things did make sense….
A framed picture of this strip hangs in my office. Purchased from this site…
