But if you dress Calvin up all nice and clean, your relatives might bring their kids over so Calvin can be a good influence.

I’m sure Dad kows Calvin will do something at the right moment to prevent his being used as a good example.

LOL I always love the Dad’s wisecracks. The mom is far too serious, but you can tell that she loves Calvin. Yes, any other mom would have shipped him to Australia. LOL

That brings back memmories, but my Dad never said that to me. But I still hate getting my picture taken after all these years.

I love Dad’s sarcastic wisecracks. They are the only thing that lets him survive Calvin. And in frame 3…that’sthe way every male feels that has to put on a tie. That’s why they called them “neck tie parties” in the old west.

Watterson is the master. I especially like Calvin’s combed hair in the last panel.

If you don’t want the relatives visiting don’t get him all dressed up with his hair combed. Just let him look the way he always does. He’ll make a face for the camera and everyone will see what a brat he is. They’ll stay away in droves.

Calvin and Hobbes is a great comic to read every day but you sure don’t want to have a Calvin in your house.

If you want to show what Calvin looks like, he needs to have recently been mauled by Hobbes.

… I wonder if Dad has the patent/copyrights right to that statement? If not at least he knows how to go about getting them!

Ah, but a Calvin in someone else’s house is fun beyond words. I have one like him and the relatives love to visit because he’s both entertaining AND not their problem. I try to get them to take him home with them but they always seem to have some excuse. :)

Why do mothers always want you to do something different with your hair in a family picture? Wouldn’t it make more sense to look the way you always do? Why try to remember something that never was?

But what if you always do the same thing with your hair? I did. The problem was keeping it that way.

The idea of a family portrait is to show you at your best, not at your worst (or at your average even).

Ah, Calvin, the ENFP Rebel Without a Cause. At least if you were an ENTP, you’d have a cause. :)) As it is, you just don’t want to do it.

“Dorky” is a funny word.

I remember this scene plucked straight out of my childhood.

My mom was constantly flashing a camera in our face; boy, am I glad she did. I look at those pictures today and feel a sense of wonder about my childhood.

Being perpetually six, Calvin has no need for such trivial reminders, though. His life is spread before us, never to be forgotten as it’s recorded on the pages of newsprint, paper, and computer code.

The snowmen strips ARE the best.
