Not ADHD or Asperger’s Syndrome, nor yet just any little boy’s activity, but an ENFP Personality in Early Bloom…as Powered By Sucrose, Caffeine and Theobromine. :))
Calvin has no problem inferring other people’s thoughts and feelings (thus no AS), and he’s not more or less hyperactive than others of his personality type. He is, however, equipped with all the strengths and weaknesses of an ENFP (for the sake of humor, mostly the weaknesses). Not just any little boy will do all the things he does; on the other hand, he’s no Moe either.
I’ve noted that I’m an ENFP at the core myself. Apparently I had an undiagnosed case of AS in my childhood which eventually became adult manic-depression - but that didn’t turn me into a Calvin. I have a nephew who was diagnosed with AS (a pretty serious case of it too) and his mother has some form of perceptual disorder as well. Calvin doesn’t act like my nephew did or for the reasons he did. Calvin has a moral center. It’s simply defined by his own rules, no one else’s.
Diagnosis: Calvin is radically selfish. He just does what is important to him. He may be borderline psychotic thanks to the First Law of Cartoon Physics (“Only When It’s Funny”), but he doesn’t have Asperger’s or ADHD! :))
