I love dad’s wide eyed surprised look in panel 5. He’s either amazed at Calvin’s ‘sentiments’ or he’s forgotten it’s Mother’s Day. For his sake I hope it’s the former, Mom’s going to need something very special after reading Calvin’s card!

I wonder what Calvin bought with his “small” allowance?

You woke Mom for that…! Calvin, you’re oblivious!

“I did it all by myself”…(and for myself)! I’ll give you credit for the good poetry, Calvin, and you can give me credit for the increase in your allowance, because you’re not getting cash!

Good Mom. Really, really, really good Mom. And yes, Dad’s look of surprise is great! You can really get drawn into this story line. Vary clever.

@baby66boy: The reason why Calvin and Hobbes ended is covered beautifully in Bill Watterson’s book, “The Complete Calvin and Hobbes.”

Like Charles Schultz, who decided that “Peanuts” should not be handled by other cartoonists, Watterson similarly had his reasons for letting his strip “retire” while still in its prime.

I get the feeling that Watterston is a bit of a mysterious character, so we may never know for certain.

Maybe in another life Calvin was a cat/ Thats about as loving as she gets when she is hungry.

    P. S. There will NEVER be another Ogden Nash.

If this were like other strips, Calvin – probably with the help of Hobbes – would have destroyed the kitchen trying to cook breakfast for Mom, leaving her a mess that she’d spend all morning cleaning up. So maybe there’s a silver lining to his selfishness.

CALVIN! that is insulting your own mother for that card on Mother’s Day. Tch! I am sure Mother will not do anything with Calvin’s allowance. Ask your father for the allowance, Calvin! I bet Father will say same thing as what Mother said. Give a little bit or none for Calvin’s allowance, anyway.

Maybe one reason Watterson bowed out at his peak is so he wouldn’t be corrupted by writing such verse.

dingo353: I think your comment to Grog was completely uncalled for. Everyone here knows that Marg is almost always the first person to comment on the new day’s C & H. If she doesn’t (and then maybe doesn’t the rest of the day either), people wonder where she is … and I’d say that it’s most likely out of concern for her — not out of nosiness as to where she is or what she’s doing specifically.

People really need to control themselves when it comes to insulting their fellow posters … as in DON’T do it! Before pushing that “Post Comment” button, please re-read what you just wrote and ask yourself: “Would I want someone saying this TO me … or ABOUT me … especially if it’s uncalled for?” If the answer is no, then please delete your comment and move on. The quickest way to get banned from here is bad behavior.
