Love that bushy tail!

I miss those great thunder storms that rolled across Quebec when I was a kid.

Or, in my case, fireworks from overly-enthusiastic neighbors. Chinese people have to blow something up for every occasion.

You know the lightning is close when you hear it go by. We once had several windows broken by the concussion of the thunder from a stroke.

What happened to his flamethrower? He can use it on them.

Naw….it was only a Space Alien Ray Gun Invasion!!!! See…..that’s why Hobbe’s tail is all fuzzy!

At the first distant rumble of thunder, my cat burrows under the junk at the back of the closet. If the storm gets bad enough, she yowls her heart out in there, poor thing.

Knowing cats, Hobbes will lick his tail down when it’s over and tell Calvin he wasn’t scared, he was just trying to protect him from cosmic debris.

@ ejcapulet: Where do you live, San Fran? Here in Hawaii, it’s nuts every Chinese New Year, New Year’s Day, and July 4th. Hopefully banning consumer fireworks will cut down on explosions and smoke.

Come to think of it, I notice Calvin rarely celebrates holidays. Never saw him set off fireworks (not that Mom would let him anyway!)

In the night from saturday to sunday at four o’ clock in the morning a nois started in our house. After one or two minutes it made “womm, womm, womm”. Always when I started to sleep again, a new “Womm” made up and I couldn’t sleep any more! This lasted until 2 pm on sunday!

Looks like the monsters under the bed aren’t as scary as the stuff outside.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I was waiting for the bang.

I vote for space aliens.

One of my daughter’s friends is terrified of storms. She whimpers and cowers under anything she can find. I found out later that her house got hit by lightening earlier this year. I don’t think she’ll grow out of this fear anytime soon.

I miss the storms of North Dakota and Alberta. Now that I live in the PNW thunder is rare and we usually only get sheet lightening, but that is rare as well. A whole summer can go by without either. I also miss watching a storm approach, with the sky black and threatening off in the distance and moving ever closer.

BinaryWiener - You asked where ejcapulet lives. While I can’t be more specific, she lives somewhere in China. I’m horrible in Chinese geography!

We got a lot of thunderstorms this summer here in Montreal.

Puddleglum2… no my best friend totaling her car kept me up!! She is okay, but her car is not. I work out 3-4 times a week! This ensures good sleep! Thanks for the tip! And I love it when storms are what keep me awake!! :D

A thunder storm last week knocked out my electricity for 24 hours. I’m in no hurry for the next one! (Just blew the fuse at the road luckily, didn’t fry any electronics…)

I suspected that there was a tale (tiger ‘tail’) to be told. I’m sorry about your best friend’s mishap. It doesn’t surprise me that you work out regularly. I find that running helps relieve stress that might otherwise keep me awake at night, sometimes. “Stormy Weather”

When I was a pre-teen, I loved to ride my bike in the rain during storms. I enjoyed the feel of the rain hitting me as it was driven by the wind gusts. I looked forward to the ozone smell from the lightning. It wasn’t until I was a few years older that I realized how incredibly stupid I was for doing this and that it was only by the grace of God that I am alive today.

musicnut, I remember once riding a bike home “on the wings of the wind” just before a thunderstorm. Wonderful, but I’d be scared of being actually in the lightning area.

What are they doing under the bed the only safe place during a storm like this is in bed with Mom and Dad.

I was coming home from Vermont with my son who was five. It was the worst storm I was ever in. The lightening and thunder was intense and when it rained you had to pull over because you couldn’t see. The wind was actually the worst of the problem. It was blowing so hard that branches and trees were falling all around us. I helped people move a couple trees so we could drive home and I removed several large branches along the way. We had to stop at a bar at one point because a tree brought down live wires that were snapping all over the road. It was definitely an adventure!

My dog is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms. At the merest hint of one coming, she runs and hides in the corner behind the couch in our finished basement and refuses to come out until it passes on through and she feels safe again.

My dog (an 80-pound German Shepherd) would try to get under the bed at the first rumble of thunder, but she didn’t fit! In her old age she became deaf, but the silver lining of that cloud was that thunder and fireworks no longer bothered her.

My cat, on the other hand, wasn’t bothered by thunder (although fireworks a block away would send her under the bed). However, if she was outside when the first drop of rain fell, she would make a beeline for the kitty door.
