We used to tell our Mom if the baby sitter was bad or mean to us.

So did I — but Mom almost always took the sitter’s side. She knew me too well.

I’ve always rooted for Rosalyn. Calvin deserves three of her. He should be grateful he only has one.

It appears that Rosalyn was in the back seat, but she would have seen Calvin hiding there. And how is it that Calvin doesn’t know she’s gone?

Calvin’s parents can learn some things from Ros. She won’t put up with Calvin’s nonsense, and neither should they.

Puddleglum2, please don’t be so judgmental. We are supposed to be adults with a Still A Kid inside. A little imagination is required here.

I’m being more realistic than judgmental. Imagination is fine, and I understand that comics take liberties, but it should have logic and reason so it makes sense. Have you ever seen comics where you wonder what the cartoonist was trying to say and no matter how you look at it, you can’t figure it out? That’s annoying. I think it improved later for the most part. Calvin and Hobbes still is my favorite comic.BTW, shouldn’t the parents know where the kid is and that he is safe and sound (if that’s possible) before Dad takes the babysitter home?

Oh for pity sakes LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE! It is just a comic strip. If you want reality go turn on the television during prime time, there is enough of that crap there.

If I had a youngster like Calvin, I would hire this monster sitter all the time.

Calvin probably had nightmares about his parents adopting her, so she’d live with him full-time!

@Puddleglum2: I’m not sure where you’re coming from here. Would Rosalyn have ridden home in the back seat? I would suspect the front passenger seat is more likely. And she would not have seen Calvin hiding in the back seat, where he presumably took refuge after Ros locked him in the garage (previous strip). Add to the logic that he might well have fallen asleep in the meantime.

Further, Dad would also be likely to shag the sitter home while Mom headed upstairs to check on the little darling in his bed. In the real world, she’d be hysterical about the time the car left the driveway and relieved when Dad returned shortly after.

And yes, you could fault Rosalyn for leaving Calvin in the garage/car, but as @Ray C pointed out, this is a COMIC STRIP and is funny because of the hyperbole and other unrealistic events. In REAL LIFE, Rosalyn would not be funny.

I wonder how Rosalyn is going to spin this so that she doesn’t come off as the irresponsible, abusive, neglectful baby-sitter she is?

Of course, if she denies everything happened the way Calvin’s going to describe it, you can bet good money on it that they’ll take her word over his simply because they’re extremely familiar with his work . . . and because they’re going to need baby-sitting services in the future and Rosalyn’s the only one in that town willing to take him on!

I dunno what it is with Calvin and things automotive, but when he’s old enough to get a driver’s license, everybody outta da pool, y’knowhatImean, already?

I was implying that Rosalyn probably had sat in the front seat, but in the panel it looked as if she had been sitting in the back seat. I think the explanation that Calvin might have fallen asleep in the back makes sense, especially if he was on the floor..Everyone may enjoy this comic anyway he/she pleases, and most people know I like humor, particularly puns, but I like other aspects as well, including Calvin’s vocabulary and precociousness. I don’t read it for as much of a diversion as many people do.

It seemed like something was missing from this arc — weren’t the babysitter strips usually a little longer than 3 days and much more adventuresome than this?

My babysitter did the same
