Snow Dad- Snow Mama- Snow ball- Snow family- snow artists in progress. What else could come from that but snow aliens from a snow ship with snow shooters? Even the ship is surrendering to our hero in the next panel.

“Jejune"? Even I don’t know what that means and yet five-year-old Calvin does.

And consequences when taken to extremes.

Has anyone else ever wondered how many years of therapy WILL Calvin eventually need, and will it be more than his parents?

The panel with the family is so nice, I love this one!!

Why not tune up the other works as well? The round one doesn’t have a head to cut down though.

Responsibilty that people will NOT shoot dead each other and cut down theire heads, I like the panel with the family, it’s nice and peaceful, an idyll on this panel!

LMAO! One can only hope that at least the dog made it out safely.

And yet the kid can’t pass a test to save his life!

Wonder what Calvin’s comment would be regarding a snow phallus that appeared one morning on campus at the university I attended? Whoever built it had sprayed it with water to make it more “permanent.”

“Jejune” is a stupid word. Case closed.

This is Bill Watterson’s critique of other comic strips/art that were popular in the day. Gotta read between the panels.

I wonder what he’s planning to add to the scene; another Earthling snowman, horrified that he’ll be the next to get de-headed?

When this was written, jejune was a word that was used regularly, by the educated class of people to show off their education. In the ipod/smart phone generation, no one says anything unless they can get an app for it.

What amazes me is that there never seems to be less snow on the ground when he’s through, even though we see no more coming down.

I just love Calvin’s snow dioramas. As Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” I believe he’s absolutely correct.

Since nobody has bothered to actually answer the question of what “jejune” means, I will. “Jejune,” according to Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary, means “dull; too simple; devoid of significance or interest; juvenile.”

Calvin definitely thinks he’s better than everyone else.

It’s all about the snow Calvin. And being the sole guardian of high culture.

Has his Mum and Dad not taken any photographs of his magnificent work yet?Shame on them if they haven’t.xxx

It looks like the snow is just coming up to Calvin’s ankles. So where did all the snow come from to build his sculpture? Ahhh, the bliss of the cartoon world…

Yet for all his vocabulary, he seems to misuse “irony.” At least, I see nothing ironic about a snow family. That makes Calvin himself ironic.I wonder if Bill Watterson was expressing himself in this strip, what with his low regard for most contemporary comics.

The people with the family snow"men" have corresponding silhouettes on the back window of their SUV; with a little Calvin peeing on them

I love his line: “Provoking a reaction isn’t the same as saying something significant” How frikkin’ funny (and true)!
