For Calvin, breaking from the routine is one of the bare necessities of life.

In the book, he decided that since the natives he saw had clothing, and the pictures he saw in his father’s books had clothing, he should wear clothing. So he killed a native and took his loincloth.

Natives and nudists who are consistently in their birthday suit, have little concern for sunburn. It’s only the occasional sun devotee that has reason to worry. Do natives and nudists have the same type of skin problems that sun-bathers do? Anyone have statistics?

@Hobbes … I have the original “The Universe has an Attitude, Mom!” strip cut out and hanging up since it was first published in our local paper. The colors are fading, but the philosophy is one that I, at least, still live by …

Better not run into Suzie like that. He doesn’t have pockets to hide his water baloons.

@NightShade09: Yes – that’s a good observation. And Bill Watterson also gets to break the boundary of the circle with Calvin and his mom. Of course, Bill Watterson broke a lot of other boundaries during his career as well. He didn’t like things to be too routine, any more than Calvin did, especially when he was designing his Sunday layouts.
