How can THAT kid be so smart – period. Er, question mark. ?

Kids dumb???!!! Then why are you the one who’s mopping up the floor?

In one of his more insightful moments, Calvin said: “I’m not dumb. I just have a command of totally useless information.” Sometimes it’s not even useless, though its application can be questioned. :)

The kid gravitates towards trouble

He does have his bright moments.

Knowledgeable is not the same thing as smart. Not that I don’t think Calvin is smart. I do think he spends a lot of energy rather fruitlessly.

I think the dumb thing Mom is referring to is trying to pour lemonade while wearing roller skates. Not very logical, but very kid-like.

It’s easy, Mom. Children’s minds are programmed for acquiring and storing new information, but not for interpreting it. They’re not ready for irony, or exceptions to the rule.

My mother has been known to ask the exact same question of me on a number of occasions…

I used to use this on my sons, “How can someone so smart do something so stupid?”

This left them with nowhere to go with a comeback. Were they really going to argue with me about their being smart?

It put the emphasis on the act and not an alledged character flaw with my kid.

Calvin and his pet tiger Hobbes were playing outside on the skateboard when Calvin came inside and spilled a jug of iced tea. Calvin’s mom wondered how kids can be so smart and so dumb at the same time.

Kids! Who would have them?

Is there no other female out here to answer Mom’s question?! – Calvin is preparing to be a M A N. Paraphrased: How can a M A N know so much and still be so dumb? I ask myself that question at least once a week.

Calvin is actually smart, even if his grades suggest otherwise. He just doesn’t have any motivation to do well in school.

Well his parents are the master minds around here.
