Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for February 27, 2015
Transcript:
Calvin: "Wouldn't it be cool if you sneezed and the spray from your nose instantly froze?" Calvin: "You could break it off your face and have a 3-D sculpture of your sneeze!" Calvin: "...Well, I think it would be cool" Hobbes: "People wonder why cats are solitary"
Housecats are not solitary by nature. It’s a lifestyle that we impose on them. Leave a bunch of cats alone, just putting out food, and they’ll form a society much like lion prides.
We think they’re solitary because, unlike dogs, they are smart enough to recognize that humans are a different species and hence can’t be members of cat society. (Not that they’re particularly tender towards their own family members.) Did we tame them or did they tame us?
