I’m sure, she will give him a grant when he has done it!

Moms trump all, as I tell my nephew.

What a little mercenary. Or ………… what’s that other word, you know …………….. the one for people who do “things” only for money?

Of course you get paid. You get to eat three meals a day. You have a bed to sleep in. You get an education. That’s your pay. Now get to work.

I think the Mom was referring to her “pay.” The works she does is very important.

Mothers aren’t paid for the most important things that they do.

Note that Calvin is so short that only his head shows above the bottom of the last panel. In the first panel, he is only 1/3 the height of his mother. Note that the lines on Mom’s sleeves always stay horizontal, regardless of the angle of her arms.

HobbesThat’s because she’s actually wearing a Chroma key shirt and the lines are composited in post-production. Duh!!

But Mom did ask Calvin if he was okay with “picking up” his room and Calvin simply responded to her question.

Sheeeeesh… give the kid some respect!

She can make your life hell, Calvin.

I found that if I threatened to clean his room myself if he didn’t it always got magically cleaned. ‘Course, I had to do it once, but that’s all it took.

When my boys were little I always gave them a reason (hold my hand in the parking lot so a car won’t smoosh you). Later, they just assumed there was a reason. Now, I just tell them and it gets done.

uniquename: My fun that way is to mention that I am older than Willy Nelson (3 days), and the twin of Carol Burnett.

Why are Mothers all obsessed with clean bedrooms?

You can clean the attic if you have one.

I think the point is that a mother doesn’t get paid with money, but she has the most important job of all. Especially with Calvin for a son ☺

Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I don’t read all the comments) but does anybody remember Calvin’s mum asking him to “Pick up his room” and Calvin replies “Won’t it be too heavy?” and he bursts out laughing. That strip was a classic!xxx

@Daniel Quilp: Calvin’s hair grows really fast…..Or, maybe Calvin is standing on his tiptoes in panels 2 and 3.
