Talk about being afraid of your own shadow.. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
This strip represents one of the few times – you can count them on one hand, I believe – that Calvin gets the better of Hobbes.
I never saw Calvin ever again as a Scout after this arc. I wonder was it the Noodle incident that got him kicked out..
And that’s why Hobbes never interacts with other tigers: he’s afraid of them.
Hobbes learns in a later strip that tigers are territorial and don’t share their territory with one another. “This explains why I don’t get more dates,” he says.
But where are the lions and bears?
Afraid of his own kin?
Love Hobbes’s tail in panels two, then three.
Hobbes’ situation vis-à-vis other tigers reminds me of Mr. Tawky Tawny, the character from the Captain Marvel comics.
you are a tiger
LOOK! A HUMAN!Yes. Our species is what most animals are scared of.xxx
Calvin, what a stinker you are.
The shadows….
He’s afraid it might be someone he knows.
Ok I just spit my coffee out LMAO!!!
He could have used another animal, but he chose tiger. I wonder how Hobbes reacts every time he looks at the mirror. Probably like Tigger.
